Volunteer Position Overview
Hokie Helpers volunteers receive a blue T-shirt to wear so that they are highly visible to the students and families arriving on campus. Groups can tastefully accessorize, but we do ask that the t-shirt remain unadorned so that we provide one consistent and welcoming message.
We need you to be welcoming and helpful to the families and students arriving. If you don't know the answer to a question, direct the person to one of the information tents so that their question can be answered or appropriately directed.
If you are part of an organization, we don't mind you talking about the organization, but remember that our primary focus is to help these residents get to their rooms in an efficient manner while feeling welcomed. Please place the focus on welcoming them to Virginia Tech, their new "home away from home."
Volunteers will need to view a short safety training video and materials before starting their shift. We want you to be safe as you help others. Check in at your assigned information tent; you will be directed toward your area of service from there.
If you have a medical condition or disability that may affect your participation in the event, please let us know so that we may work with you to provide an accommodation or match an area of service with your abilities and comfort level.
