2009 Division of Student Affairs Employee Awards Recipients

Congratulations are extended to the following award recipients:

Julie Walters-Steele, Greg Beecher, and key participants from VT Engage, Student Activities, the Montgomery County business community, and other volunteers for winning the Zenobia Lawrence Hikes Campus Community Award. These individuals put forth extraordinary effort in promoting the development of community and contributing to a welcoming environment by organizing Gobblerfest, a welcome fest for students, staff, faculty, and community members. The Zenobia Lawrence Hikes Campus Community Award is presented to an individual or group that promotes the development of community, demonstrate compassion and respect for others, celebrate diversity, and live and work by the Virginia Tech Principles of Community.

Matt Grimes for winning the Program Award. For his superior efforts in helping to implement Hokie F6, a program designed to give residential students the opportunity to learn and play in their new residence hall homes during the first six weeks of the acamdemic year. The Program Award is given to an individual or group of employees that plan and execute an outstanding program as well as engage students in active learning, contribute to the 1st year experience, and promote community service and citizenship.

The UUSA maintenance staff - Brian Stanford, Randy Flippen, and Jason Pearman for winning the Service Award. The UUSA maintenance staff coordinates facility maintenance needs for four UUSA facilities. This specific team of three dedicated employees ensures that routine and emergency maintenance needs are met through a strong focus on work place safety and an increasingly important emphasis on sustainability practices. The service award is given to an individual or group of employees that are dedicated to providing high quality service to students and contribute to services needed for students to function successfully.

Ali Arner and Cathy Kropff were given the Partnership Award for all they have contributed to Virginia Tech for their work in making the 3.2 Mile Run in Remembrance so special. The Partnership Award is given to an individual or group of employees that succeeds with a collaborative effort or partnership across the division, in addition, the recipient also forges educational partnerships that advance student learning, serves as an ambassador for the division, and utilizes resources to achieve institutional missions and goals.
